January 16, 2008 -- Crosby & Higgins LLP has been retained on behalf of Beautiful Jewellers Private Limited, a high end distributor of jewelry in Mumbai, India, to take over the prosecution of numerous claims against Tiffany & Co. in Beautiful Jewellers Private Limited v. Tiffany & Co. (No. 06 CV 3085), a case pending before the Honorable Chief Judge Wood in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. In its complaint, Beautiful Jewellers alleges that Defendant, Tiffany & Co. breached a longstanding exclusive distribution agreement with Beautiful Jewellers covering India, in order to enter into a new distribution agreement with a competitor. In March 2007, Chief Judge Wood denied Tiffany & Co.’s motion to dismiss Beautiful Jewellers’ claims for breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, unjust enrichment and unfair competition. Beautiful Jewellers is seeking in excess of $13 million for compensatory and punitive damages.
